The First Sunday after Pentecost: Trinity Sunday
The Holy Eucharist: Rite Two
Happy First (of 24) Sunday after Pentecost. This Sunday is observed each year as Trinity Sunday. We think about the Holy Trinity, and what that teaches us about God, and our relationship with God. Don't expect to understand the whole thing completely.
We will hold in-person and live-streamed worship. The instructions for you to take part via livestreaming are in this message.
RIP Phillip Allen
Funeral June 10 - Minshall Shropshire- Blyler
Click here for the Obituary of Phillip B. Allen - with thanks to Minshall Shropshire-Blyler
Phillip Booth Allen of Thornton, PA, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022. The only son of Martin and Naomi Allen, Phillip was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1934. As a child, Phillip had sold newspapers on the street as a newspaper hawker. In high school, Phil wrote, adapted, produced, and appeared in plays, including a production of "Our Town". He applied to both MIT and Trinity College in Connecticut, and while he dreamed of MIT, he knew Trinity would be a more affordable option. He was accepted to both, but his mother only showed him the acceptance to MIT. Phillip attended MIT for 2 years and then served in the United States Army for 2 years, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. Phil returned to MIT and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering in 1960. After being recruited from a college job fair, Phil began working for DuPont, where he worked his entire career. He continued his work as a consultant for the American Chemical Society for years afterward. Phillip was a long-time member of Resurrection Episcopal Church (formerly Calvary) in Rockdale, a two-time cancer survivor, a puzzle meister, a Freemason, and an accidental collector of Christmas socks.
Despite an often-serious demeanor, Phil did have a light-hearted side. He may or may have not occasionally set off fireworks on the beach in Stone Harbor, NJ, where he loved to vacation with his family. Phil was excellent at trivia, and was a lifelong fan of Jeopardy! He loved science, gadgets, and quizzing his children and grandchildren on the periodic table of elements. He hated peanut butter and spinach.
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Naomi Allen, as well as his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan B. Allen; daughter, Linda J. Granbois; and grandson, Paul M. Allen, II.
He is survived by his son Paul M. Allen, and his wife Patrice; daughter Virginia A. Bussey and her husband Ken; granddaughters Tammy Allen, Megan Allen, Cari Bogulski, and Regina Mickle; grandsons John Bogulski and Matthew Gusler; great-granddaughters Haley Allen and Brielle Allen; great-grandson Connor Anderson; nieces Jenny Anne Williams, Debbie Bostock, Kathy Piotto; and nephew David Abbott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Resurrection Episcopal Church, 2131 Mount Rd., Aston, PA 19014.
Time to remember to wear our Name Tags!
While we were more concerned with other issues (e.g., the pandemic), we got out of the habit of wearing our name tags (They would have been helpful when everybody's face was behind a mask!). It's time to make them a practice again. Please remember to wear your name tag each Sunday at Church!
Rite One Eucharist During July
During Summer, when we have just one service each Sunday, we will use Rite One.
There will be no 7:30 service until September
Memorial Day Activities return to Rockdale and Resurrection Church.
Memorial Day is observed on May 30 this year. The parade to the Memorial starts about 11:15a.m. The prayers and addresses at the Memorial about 11:45a.m. will be followed at the Resurrection by the customary ceremonies and honorary salutes fired by the local veterans. There will be no luncheon this year.
Vestry meets, takes actions and makes plans
The Vestry met Tuesday evening and took the following actions:
Given the recent upswing in COVID cases (and the return of a mask mandate in Philadelphia) we are updating our advice to "Masks are optional, but encouraged."
The worship outreach program at Fair Acres is restarting.
If you can help, please contact Jude Winters.
General Convention of the Episcopal Church
will meet July 7-14 in Baltimore. If you would be interested in joining a parish day trip to see our Church in its diversity, let Fr. Wand know.
Coffee Hour Resumed
Please consider signing up to host Coffee- hour
Updated worship protocols and other actions
Masks at worship will be optional. Cloth masks are allowed and welcomed.
The Peace
It's OK to touch now.
The Cup (Wine)
at Communion--
People can receive in one kind (bread only) or in two kinds (bread and wine). We will be using the common cup. Intinction (dipping your bread in the wine) is still NOT allowed.
Pre-School Opens with Combined MWF Class
Our parish pre-school has opened with a combined class of 3- and 4-year-olds held from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. For more information, contact our Pre-School Director, Dawn Viscusi, at the Church Office.
PLEASE PUBLICIZE THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS!!
Bakery Donations from Giant Need More Publicity So That More Folks Get Helped
Too large a proportion of the bakery goods donated to us by Giant Markets and placed each Monday in the Undercroft are discarded at the end of the week. Please tell your friends and neighbors about this resource. More people can be helped, and we can become better stewards of our gifts!
Food Pantry Ministry Evolving to Meet Changing Conditions
As the needs of the hungry in our area change, and the best way to help the food pantries we assist changes along with that, we are adjusting how we ask for your support. We will continue gratefully to accept offerings of money from parishioners, but we will be adding an option to make a food donation at the Church as well. Starting now, our Outreach Coordinator, Leigh Oppelt, will make known particular items we are asking be donated for a particular month [e.g., for April: canned soups, fish, and meats, paper products (facial and toilet tissue, and paper towels), and side dishes (e.g., Mac-n-cheese, Rice-a-Roni, etc.). Any items donated are accepted with thanks, but we will be concentrating on the "Items of the Month."
If you received a mask previously, please bring it
with you to use this Sunday.
"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore."
